General Questions

  • What is included in the subscription box?  Each Homeschool Art Box includes: Four pages of educational content about an artist or art movement; Two full-color prints to study/appreciate the artwork; Step-by-step instructions for a related, creative art project; and Art supplies needed to complete the project. Written in a child-friendly, accessible manner, the educational content can be read to the student, or read by older students on their own. Throughout the schoolyear, Homeschool Art Box teaches students about nine of the great masters of art, helps students appreciate their art, and exposes them to a variety of art media and techniques. Best of all, the prep work is already done for the teacher. Just “open and go.”
  • What artists will be featured in the subscription boxes? Each year is different for a total of four years without repeats! For the 2024-25 Schoolyear, nine artists will be featured:
    • Giotto (September)
    • Raphael (October)
    • Caravaggio (November)
    • Jan Vermeer (December)
    • Japanese Prints (January)
    • William Turner (February)
    • Vincent Van Gogh (March)
    • Grandma Moses (April)
    • Paul Klee (May)
    • Do I need to provide any supplies?  We will provide consumable art supplies as part of the subscription, however, you will need to have basic supplies on hand such as: #2 pencils, scissors, art smocks, table protection, and other common household supplies.
    • Do I need to save any supplies from month to month? No, we will provide what you need each month. If you have leftover supplies, feel free to get creative and use them all up!
    • Why not just do it myself? We know how busy life is - especially if you are homeschooling! Coming up with projects and lessons: and searching for materials for art class is time-consuming, and - let's be honest - sometimes it just gets skipped. Let us do the work for you! We have created the lesson, picked the most relevant art, developed the art project, and gathered all the supplies. You are left with the best part to enjoy with your student - Learn and get creative!
    • How do you handle nudity in art? When studying a particular artist, there are often many works of art we could choose to study. When possible, we choose those works without nudity. If there is a particular work of art of great importance that contains nudity, we will block or blur out the nudity.
    • What ages is Homeschool Art Box recommended for? Homeschool Art Box is intended for students in 1st grade and up. We have students 1st grade through high school that use the curriculum. It is adaptable to many ages and is a great multi-age class! Younger students may require more assistance from an adult. Typically, older students will spend more time on the project and incorporate more detail.
    • Is each year the same? No way! We have developed a 4 year sequence covering different artists or art movements each year. We will not repeat artists or projects for 4 years - we promise!
    • Will the artist sequence match up with my history curriculum? Each year of Homeschool Art Box covers art history from ancient times to modern times, focusing on different artists throughout history each year. So, No, it will probably not match up with your history curriculum, but, students will get the "big picture" of art history each year. There are many benefits to the yearly approach Homeschool Art Box takes, alongside your history curriculum. Depending on the student, there will be reference to historical periods they are familiar with as well as introductions to periods or events they have yet to learn about. They will see how history shaped the artist, and how the artist, perhaps, helped to shape history.
    • How do you choose the artists? Using a variety of sources, we have picked what we believe are the most influential artists of all time, with an emphasis on American artists in modern history (although not exclusively). These are the artists and works of art which your students will be most likely to encounter in every day life, whether or not they pursue a career in art.
    • Do you work with homeschool charter schools and education spending accounts? Yes! We have worked with several different organizations throughout the US. Currently, we are approved vendors for: Ohio ACE, Kansas KEEP, Arizona ESA, Utah Education Fits All, Compass Charter Schools, Granite Mountain Charter School, IEM Charter Schools, and Epic Charter Schools, to name a few, as well as many other state-specific programs. We also accept ClassWallet funds.
